Il-prijorità tal-Gvern la huwa l-poplu u wisq inqas l-ambjent
Bħalma għamel b’ħafna oqsma oħra, il-Gvern rema l-ambjent fiż-żibel.
Wara li l-Qrati ta’ pajjiżna waqqfuh milli jaġġudika tender ta’ 600 miljun ewro lil konsorzju minħabba kunflitt ċar ta’ interess mill-Bord tal-Evalwazzjoni u mill-Bord tal-Appelli, il-Gvern Laburista baqa’ għaddej bil-pjan li jagħti t-tender lill-istess konsorzju.
Dan wara li l-Qorti kienet ordnat li l-evalwazzjoni terġa’ tibda mill-bidu, kaġun tal-fatt li l-proċess tal-għoti tat-tender kien ivvizzjat u ma kienx ġust.
Il-Kap Eżekuttiv ta’ Wasteserv Richard Bilocca jgħid li l-pajjiż għandu urġenza biex dan il-proġett tal-inċineratur jitlesta u jibda jopera. Anke għax skont l-istess Bilocca bħalissa qed intellgħu kont ta’ mijiet ta’ eluf fix-xahar f’multi għax m’aħniex nipproċessaw l-iskart tagħna kif suppost.
Dan il-proġett tħabbar fi Frar tal-2018 – seba’ snin ilu – u għadu fl-istadju tal-aġġudikazzjoni. Imma l-inkompetenza tal-Labour fil-qasam tas-separazzjoni tal-iskart ilna narawha minn meta kien elett fil-gvern fl-2013.
Minħabba li l-Gvern Laburista għażel li jistrieħ fuq soluzzjonijiet temporanji kellu jiddeċiedi li għal darba oħra jestendi l-kapaċità tal-miżbla tal-Għallis, u jtawwal il-perjodu tal-operat tal-landfill, minflok isib soluzzjonijiet sostenibbli u effettivi għall-immaniġġjar tal-iskart.
Issa, fil-każ tal-inċineratur, it-tort ta’ dak li qed jiġri hu biss, u kollu, tal-Gvern li injora għalkollox l-ordni tal-Qorti li jwaqqaf l-għotja tat-tender lill-konsorzju magħżul minħabba kunflitt ta’ interess ovvju mill-bordijiet involuti fil-proċess tal-għażla.
Sadanittant il-poplu Malti qed ikompli jbati l-konsegwenzi tan-nuqqas ta’ impjant Waste-to-Energy minħabba l-ebusija tar-ras tal-Gvern li hu evidenti li lest jarmi l-ambjent u s-saħħa tal-Maltin fiż-żibel, l-aqwa li tgħaddi tiegħu.
Ta’ dan kollu l-Maltin mhux qed iħallsu biss b’saħħithom imma anke bi flushom għaliex dan kollu se jiswa lil pajjiżna l-eluf ta’ ewro f’multi jekk il-Gvern jonqos li jonora l-obbligi li għandu mal-UE fejn jidħol l-iskart.
Gvernijiet Nazzjonalisti fil-passat kellhom pjan u kienu mexjin fid-direzzjoni t-tajba fejn jidħol skart u ambjent.
Dal-pjan, tal-Labour remewh il-baħar, għax għalihom l-ambjent mhux importanti.

The Government continues to dump the environment in the bin
Government’s priority is neither the people nor, even less, the environment
As it has done in many other sectors, the Government has thrown the environment into the bin.
After the courts in our country stopped it from awarding a €600 million tender to a consortium due to a clear conflict of interest by both the Evaluation Board and the Appeals Board, the Labour Government has persisted with its plan to award the tender to the same consortium.
This comes despite the Court ordering that the evaluation process be restarted from scratch, as the tendering process was found to be flawed and unfair.
The Chief Executive of Wasteserv, Richard Bilocca, has stated that the country urgently needs this incinerator project to be completed and operational. He also pointed out that, according to his own assessment, the country is currently incurring fines amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros per month due to the failure to process waste properly.
This project was announced in February 2018 – seven years ago – and is still at the adjudication stage. However, Labour’s incompetence in waste separation has been evident ever since it was elected to government in 2013.
Because the Labour Government chose to rely on temporary solutions, it has once again had to extend the capacity of the Għallis landfill, prolonging its operational period instead of finding sustainable and effective solutions for waste management.
Now, in the case of the incinerator, the blame for what is happening lies solely with the Government, which has completely ignored the Court’s order to halt the tender award to the selected consortium due to an obvious conflict of interest by the boards involved in the selection process.
Meanwhile, the Maltese people continue to suffer the consequences of not having a Waste-to-Energy plant due to the Government’s stubbornness, which clearly shows that it is willing to discard both the environment and the health of the Maltese people in the bin, as long as it gets its way.
The Maltese are not only paying for this with their health but also with their money, as this failure will cost the country thousands of euros in fines if the Government fails to honour its waste-related obligations to the EU.
Past Nationalist Governments had a plan and were heading in the right direction when it came to waste and environmental management.
Labour threw this plan into the sea because, for them, the environment is not important.
